scenario:

• create a new box that can hold only a few characters
• type enough characters that the first character disappears
• backspace slowly through the characters you typed

Before this commit the editor would go blank at some point and there'd be no way to see the cursor – if you didn't know to press the arrow keys. (Which is particularly confusing on a mobile device where arrow keys may be non-existent or seldom used.)
