I just wanted to say thank you. I got started recently and had to be confused but figured it out. This update will make the manual better for completely new people like I was. See here* for my fairly hard to read (mentally disorganized notes).

The main issue I think I can point out, particularly because it might not be obvious to already setup folks; Is that I wasn’t able to record at all until I created an Identity. And that made the Manual weird and backwards for the getting started parts.

Maybe I am confused on how merging workflows work here… I see this change in main channel but I also do not see that or other recent changes in https://nest.pijul.com/pijul/manual/changes - when will this be applied @loewenheim ? And also is it documented the CI or other process to update the published manual site?

The documentation is out of date. The suggested command does not work and I am given a series of prompts. Then I don’t know how to upload the key that is generated. It seems like it is in the wrong format. Also, there seems to be some confusion as to why a new key is generated when I already have one in ~/.ssh/. As someone brand new to the project this is not a great experience.

Thanks @loewenheim for the contribution! After refactoring the identity code I never got around to documenting it, and it has clearly let down a lot of users - my apologies.

I’ve added a change that should fully update the docs to reflect how things currently work, and merged both changes into main. I would like to make further changes, but this should be a good starting point.

If you’re interested, or would like to discuss, please feel free to reach out through the backlog topic on Zulip.

@cellarroot thanks for linking your notes, I have bookmarked them and will hopefully be able to address them later when I have more time.
