{"header":{"message":"serialise mutable pristine transactions in the Nest itself","description":"The pristine is opened with `new_nolock`, so sanakirja's file locks — meant for unknown, unsynchronised processes — are off, and the Nest is the only writer: it has to exclude concurrent writers itself. It did not. Every mutable transaction took `pristine.write()` just long enough to call `(arc_|mut_)txn_begin` and then released the guard, so two pushes on the same repository could run overlapping mutable transactions (reproduced against sanakirja 2.0.0-beta.3: 31 overlaps in 80k commit/begin cycles on 4 threads; 0 when the transactions are aborted instead of committed).\n\nAdd a per-repository writer mutex, held from `txn_begin` until after `commit()` (or the transaction's drop), via `Repo::write_txn` / `write_arc_txn` / `write_arc_txn_blocking` / `write_lock_blocking` and the `WriteTxn` guard. Every mutable-transaction site now goes through it: apply, unrecord, new channel, fork, prune, rename, rebase, rollback, config state, archive, and palimpsest's change_diff (which opens its own).\n\nReaders are deliberately not covered: writers now take `pristine.read()`, so read-only transactions are never blocked — including by `archive` and `change_diff`, which used to hold the write guard for their whole run.\n\nThe writer mutex only means something if there is one `Repo` — hence one `Env` — per repository, so `RepositoryLocks` keeps a weak index alongside the LRU: an eviction, a `flush`, or a delete while a transaction is live no longer lets the next `get` open a second `Env` on the same pristine.","timestamp":"2026-09-09T19:34:46.97082198Z","authors":[{}]},"hash":"Y5SNRGXZMY35SI6O4EY4NAMPOASPX3F73ARSADUU6ZKTADY3UCJAC","authors":[{"login":"pmeunier","key":"AAAAC3NzaC1lZDI1NTE5AAAAILagOJFgwaMNhBWQINinKOXmqS4Gh5NgxgriXwdOoINJ"}],"deps":{"hashes":[["Y5SNRGXZMY35SI6O4EY4NAMPOASPX3F73ARSADUU6ZKTADY3UCJAC","serialise mutable pristine transactions in the Nest itself"],["AA",null],["D4SBRY6KHEAMGUEVWSUYHNCRYXCOC5JJ3N3DQ47ZXOXQGT73VERAC","Initial patch"],["PCR2LDLTK6XVSBXJL6IMGQP7GSE5UNFCT6WRM2H5EPQ2AZWFRCFAC","update + CI"],["AAPXKG56GGV7IQGFIG55DBWLPME5RIRRFTM36ANXGVYXXUTVKLNQC","jobs: display state in UI"],["AX7NN2MQXFV32SW32M2NKYGSLA775AWFIWUWX3R5YAMPG32HMZMQC","Redesign (fat change)"],["66J2FRHA63N4X4CPVLMYADCZRZ3XC5LHGOKYXC6SOKG7DNVBIOTQC","Showing patches in context"],["EG3MNPQXLNF62UQAP3342JC4OL47MAUCYJM6Q4G7BVVBM2VXMDCAC","Patch reviews"],["3UYOLOBPKKDEBN4VX4GZT2KXVH3WJF3SBTWZADD2SQW4463KDKBAC","Rollback failed CI/CD jobs, and allow CI-only channels"],["ZSDVIF4BSSPHYOYSDJ7AQ3VOODEX2BDENEM5O4ZTU6DILZKPUXSQC","archive query debugging"],["72GKTFST3CQUPMMBTX2L5Q7WRDKZJW3P7IX5O7LV367IKLKZWJOAC","Keeping patches that have a review"],["APRMGSDR2JE5AXXTIF7LZ7K5N54YDSQR4DJWKILZET45B6ODZPPAC","SSH: approve"],["YYJ76Q7V6G7FHSNZ25MU3ZZY5KGXIODBHLWOZUGB4FIKL7PUCNAAC","Initial attempt at CI/CD"],["DHKUBIY6MUOZ3R6LDZ236LVLGK4CT5X6VFGIPCXQ5W5S34ACZLFQC","Handling --amend from the Nest (unrecord + apply)"]],"deps":["D4SBRY6KHEAMGUEVWSUYHNCRYXCOC5JJ3N3DQ47ZXOXQGT73VERAC","PCR2LDLTK6XVSBXJL6IMGQP7GSE5UNFCT6WRM2H5EPQ2AZWFRCFAC","AAPXKG56GGV7IQGFIG55DBWLPME5RIRRFTM36ANXGVYXXUTVKLNQC","AX7NN2MQXFV32SW32M2NKYGSLA775AWFIWUWX3R5YAMPG32HMZMQC","66J2FRHA63N4X4CPVLMYADCZRZ3XC5LHGOKYXC6SOKG7DNVBIOTQC","EG3MNPQXLNF62UQAP3342JC4OL47MAUCYJM6Q4G7BVVBM2VXMDCAC","3UYOLOBPKKDEBN4VX4GZT2KXVH3WJF3SBTWZADD2SQW4463KDKBAC"],"known":["YYJ76Q7V6G7FHSNZ25MU3ZZY5KGXIODBHLWOZUGB4FIKL7PUCNAAC","APRMGSDR2JE5AXXTIF7LZ7K5N54YDSQR4DJWKILZET45B6ODZPPAC","ZSDVIF4BSSPHYOYSDJ7AQ3VOODEX2BDENEM5O4ZTU6DILZKPUXSQC","72GKTFST3CQUPMMBTX2L5Q7WRDKZJW3P7IX5O7LV367IKLKZWJOAC","DHKUBIY6MUOZ3R6LDZ236LVLGK4CT5X6VFGIPCXQ5W5S34ACZLFQC"]},"hunks":[{"Edit":{"inode":{"change":2,"pos":397417},"path":"api/src/repository/mod.rs","line":7,"atom":{"NewVertex":{"up_context":[{"change":2,"pos":397680}],"down_context":[{"change":6,"pos":9876}],"flag":"BLOCK","start":0,"end":98,"inode":{"change":2,"pos":397417}}},"contents":[{"Add":{"text":"use pijul_core::pristine::ArcTxn;","pos":"Y5SNRGXZMY35SI6O4EY4NAMPOASPX3F73ARSADUU6ZKTADY3UCJAC:33"}},{"Add":{"text":"use pijul_core::pristine::sanakirja::{MutTxn0, SanakirjaError};","pos":"Y5SNRGXZMY35SI6O4EY4NAMPOASPX3F73ARSADUU6ZKTADY3UCJAC:97"}}]}},{"Replacement":{"inode":{"change":2,"pos":397417},"path":"api/src/repository/mod.rs","line":73,"ins":{"up_context":[{"change":2,"pos":399229}],"down_context":[{"change":2,"pos":399276}],"flag":"BLOCK","start":99,"end":772,"inode":{"change":2,"pos":397417}},"del":{"edges":[{"previous":"BLOCK","flag":"BLOCK | DELETED","from":{"change":2,"pos":399229},"to":{"change":2,"start":399229,"end":399276},"introduced_by":2}],"inode":{"change":2,"pos":397417}},"ins_contents":[{"Add":{"text":"/// The strong (LRU) cache of open repositories, plus a weak index of every","pos":"Y5SNRGXZMY35SI6O4EY4NAMPOASPX3F73ARSADUU6ZKTADY3UCJAC:174"}},{"Add":{"text":"/// repository still alive anywhere in the process.","pos":"Y5SNRGXZMY35SI6O4EY4NAMPOASPX3F73ARSADUU6ZKTADY3UCJAC:226"}},{"Add":{"text":"///","pos":"Y5SNRGXZMY35SI6O4EY4NAMPOASPX3F73ARSADUU6ZKTADY3UCJAC:230"}},{"Add":{"text":"/// The weak index is what makes [`Repo::writer`] meaningful: it guarantees","pos":"Y5SNRGXZMY35SI6O4EY4NAMPOASPX3F73ARSADUU6ZKTADY3UCJAC:306"}},{"Add":{"text":"/// there is at most one `Repo` — hence one sanakirja `Env`, hence one writer","pos":"Y5SNRGXZMY35SI6O4EY4NAMPOASPX3F73ARSADUU6ZKTADY3UCJAC:386"}},{"Add":{"text":"/// mutex — per repository at any time.
