Related to that, I think it would be really cool to have “I/O plugins” too, which would read and write files in a certain way, for example conflicts could have a syntax compatible with specific programming languages, or functions could be moved around easily.

used to have hooks one could configure to run third-party scripts, e.g., to run the test-suite prior to record a change, or to verify a change title respects certain convention. It looks like these hooks are gone now, so I propose to integrate them back.
